Susan Harris-Huemmert completed her doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford on the work of evaluators of higher education in Germany using a case study of a large evaluation of educational science in the state of Baden-Württemberg. She has worked on longitudinal research on the academic identity of doctoral students and conducted further research on behalf of the Academic Administration Division of Oxford University.
After working for the Universities of Bamberg and Würzburg (www.uni-bamberg.de; www.uni-wuerzburg.de) she is now working as a post-doctoral research fellow at the German University of Administrative Sciences, Speyer (www.uni-speyer.de). Her research interests focus on higher education systems, the quality of higher education and the student experience within it, addressing issues such as academic identity and the acquisition thereof. For her Habilitation she is undertaking an international study into higher education administration in the context university infrastructure (buildings, construction and maintenance).
Following a highly competitive bid, in June 2019 Susan became Project Coordinator of the BMBF-financed research project “KaWuM - Karrierewege und Qualifikationsanforderungen im Wissenschafts- und Hochschulmanagement”, a research collaboration with the Humboldt University and the iubh Bremen. The project, which runs from June 2019 to May 2022 was awarded the total of € 740.000,00 in third party funding (https://kawum-online.de).
Susan is a Governing Council member of the Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE), joint chairman of the working committee on higher education within the German Society for Evaluation (DeGEval), Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and Senate member of the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer. She is co-publisher of the academic journal Qualität in der Wissenschaft (QiW) and reviewer for numerous international journals.
